Barry Pankhurst shares insight and Video about Alzheimer’s

“Loneliness and Utter Isolation”

Barry lives in Indonesia with his wife, Sumi and stepdaughter. In 2005 he was  diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia and Parkinson’s disease. His entire life was turned suddenly upside down.  Living in a small provincial village he had little contact or support from other people with Alzheimer’s.

Author: Barry Pankhurst is a member of the Alzheimer’s Society of UK.  He’s on  Face Book and a member of two Support Groups on Face Book  “Memory People™” and “Forge Me Not.” Barry offers support for others who have Alzheimer’s or Dementia and their caregivers as well.

If you drop by and see Barry on Facebook or Memory People™ you’ll find some wonderful, insightful poems he’s written from the heart about Feelings and Circumstance.

**********************************

“I am sorry to bring the sad news that Shortly before Christmas 2015, Barry Pankhurst passed away.  Barry Pankhurst inspired so many. Though he had Alzheimer’s, Barry was a advocate larger than life for Dementia Awareness. He was a master baker by trade and  friend to many on Facebook. He touched our lives with poetry, stories and thoughts of dementia and suffering and surviving. He made a difference in this world and helped others to see there can be a good life even after a diagnosis of dementia! “

Rick Phelps’ Video Series – Living with Alzheimer’s –

02/101 Comment

With EOAD (Early-Onset Alzheimer Disease) Rick Phelps’ Video Series helps others cope

Instead of fading away with this disease, Rick has done something very different. Rick has decided to make videos and record the affects of this disease on himself and, perhaps, bring awareness and education about Alzheimer’s and EOAD to other people.

Rick is not a physician nor does he recommend any particular treatment for others. He is a person with Early On-Set Alzheimer’s who is documenting his own progress to bring awareness to others.

Rick has started two Facebook groups, one for Alzheimer’s patients and caregivers called ” Memory people™” and another for teenagers who have a family member or loved one with Alzheimer’s called “Memory people for teens™.” He also has a website for Alzheimer’s patients and Caregivers, Living with Alzheimer’s. Rick believes that Alzheimer’s is not only a patients disease but a caregivers disease as well. He hopes to bring more awareness to Alzheimer’s and Dementia so that more funding will be aimed toward research for better maintenance medication and some day a cure.

His videos can be viewed at several websites and on You Tube: Rick’s Phelps Videos

Rick Phelps Speaks out in Video “What Alzheimer’s Means to Me”

01/1310 Comments

This is an ongoing Video Series created by Rick Phelps. Rick is an EOAD (Early-Onset Alzheimer Disease) patient but instead of fading away with this disease Rick has done something different, very different. Rick has decided to make videos and record the affects of this disease on him and, perhaps, bring awareness and education about Alzheimer’s and EOAD to other people.

For the Caregiver, it’s an exceptional opportunity to see how the person with Alzheimer’s feels and thinks. Rick is 57 years old and lives in Ohio with his wife of many years Phyllis and his family and grandchildren near by. Rick worked in public safety for 24+ years as a law enforcement officer and a EMT for Coshocton County EMS until his EOAD forced him into early retirement in June of 2010.

Now, Rick spends his time working to bring Alzheimer’s treatment, research, awareness, education and support to the forefront of the medical field and people’s everyday lives.

Rick has started numerous facebook groups for those with Alzheimer’s as well as their family members and caregivers. One group is ” Memory people,”along with several others including one for teenagers who have a family member or loved one with Alzheimer’s called “Memory people for teens.” A website for Alzheimer’s patients and Caregivers, Living with Alzheimer’s. Rick believes that Alzheimer’s is not only a patients disease but a caregivers disease.
