An Easier Sponge Bath for the Person with Alzheimer’s dementia

An Easier Sponge Bath

The Sponge Bath is no fun for the person with dementia or any disability.  It is also difficult for the caregiver who must give the sponge bath. There has to be an easier way.

There has to be an easier sponge bath. A regular sponge bath is no more pleasant for the Caregiver than the patient. Even more embarrassing is the necessity to  bathe a family member of the opposite sex.

==>Adding a Bidet to your commode could be the solution you’re searching for <==

You can read the full article for Sponge Bathing an elderly person or someone with  late-stage Alzheimer’s dementia here>  SPONGE BATHING.

Recently, a few of  us (former and current) care-givers were discussing the need for a better way to do a Sponge Bath for our patient, or how to encourage the Alzheimer’s patient to bathe or shower with assistance. Often, the Alzheimer’s patient is still mobile but has too much fear to go near a shower stall or bath tub. I’m not certain what their fear is, but my Mom was terrified of adjusting the water temperature. She no longer had a clue how to adjust the temperature of running water with two chrome knobs.

One of my friends had the perfect solution and I was slightly embarrassed that I had never thought of it, myself. She added a Bidet to her bathroom commode, and the need to bathe the patient’s private area is all but eliminated.  My mom would have been thrilled to own a bidet. She would always try to help as much as she could with each sponge bath because she was so embarrassed to be so helpless.

The Bidet is a great alternative to the embarrassing and rough wash cloth for the patient’s private parts. This Bidet is on sale now, and with Super Saver free shipping it’s an exceptional good deal. A great bargain for a menial chore dreaded by care-giver and patient alike.
