Answering Your Questions

06/261 Comment

Hello,

I just want to let you know how  fortunate I feel to  share my experience with Alzheimer’s as caregiver for my Mom, and now my own battle with Alzheimer’s has begun.

I get many questions and comments and have always responded, usually daily. More recently, when I try to respond, WordPress freezes. I just wanted to let you all know, that I’m not ignoring you at all. I see your questions and comments just fine, but WordPress won’t allow me to respond for some reason.

-I know…. I need a little conference with WordPress! and I intend to do that right away. I just wanted those who haven’t had a response or answer to a question to know that I am not ignoring you. I will be working to find and fix this problem.   Sandy  2/18

You may also visit, ask questions or share an experiences on our Facebook Page. Free Alzheimer’s  Support.

This update is to offer a grand apology to WordPress.  If you remember the last update (almost 2 years ago) was an angry upset for me because they were no longer sending my emails to this website. 2/19

Ah hem, lowering my head, my daughter showed me 985 mails that had not been delivered to me because I bought a new computer. My new computer only had 1 email. My home email. There was no email from free-alzheimers-support.com anymore.

Oh MY!!!! I knew getting a new computer would be bad but I had no idea it would be that bad. Well….embarrassing. If you’ve tried to reach me with no response, try using: sandy@sandysgingam.com.  3/19

Thanks so much for your patience,

Sandy

** An update to this post: Nancy will be making her Fidget Quilts for this year’s holiday.  There may be  a limit to the number she can make, so get your order in early! **  Nan’sSewingCorners@etsy.com

Due to illness, I’m running slightly late on this thank you to Nancy Madaris. She is the wonderful lady who brought so much love to so many with her customized Fidget Quilts. She crafted original Fidget Quilts dedicated to the specific needs of each recipient.

“Nan’s Sewing Corners” became a popular place on Etsy. When friends and family learned what Nan could do with fabric, thread and a little background information about their loved one, folks were thrilled. With love and understanding of Alzheimer’s dementia, Nan created Fidget Quilts that are adored heirlooms today.

Due to anxiety or agitation those with busy fingers find it quite impossible to hold their hands still. The Fidget Quilts are a blessing for them, and Nancy’s custom quilts are designed with each particular person in mind. With busy fingers finally occupied, the anxiety/agitation generally evaporates. Mood and personality calm and enjoyment of life returns.

I’ve just learned that Nancy will no longer be making Fidget toys and quilts as she will be caring for her own Mom with Alzheimer’s for a time.

Thank You Nancy! for all the wonderfully created quilts and other toys for those with Fidgeting Hands. Our thoughts will be with you as you care for your own lovely Mom.

Sandy

Home Test for Alzheimer’s – Will You Take the Test?

 HOME TEST FOR ALZHEIMERS

This morning, I received an update from the Alzheimer’s Association

Recent News“On Thursday, April 6, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that they have approved at-home genetic testing through the 23andMe Personal Genome Service Genetic Health Risk (GHR) test, which tests for genes associated with risk of 10 diseases or conditions, including late-onset Alzheimer’s. People will be able to send 23andMe a saliva sample and receive their genetic data back through the mail.”

You can find and read the entire article here -> Alzheimer’s Association blog.

I understand it can be unsettling to learn about a family member with Alzheimer’s, even more so when it pertains to yourself. Some folks want the information and others do not. Would you want to know?  [Read more…]

A quick note: TV Series Available

03/01Leave a Comment

Good morning,

Just a quick note: For those who love Mary Tyler Moore and the Dick Van Dyke Show as much I do.
They have remastered the entire series.

I was a little surprised to see it available so quickly. We all miss Mary Tyler Moore. My Mom loved Mary Tyler Moore and would have been enthralled to watch the entire series at one sitting. No, she wouldn’t make it but she would try.

Her all-time favorite guy, of course, was Bob Barker but Mom loved any comedy that had a simple story line. It was easy for her to follow and no climactic ending.

The game shows were a delight for Mom, especially during her last years. And the Price is Right! Oh my goodness! Mom would skip a meal for Bob Barker.

If you want your very own copy of The Dick Van Dyke Show in its entirety, visit Amazon here –> Dick Van Dyke Show – Complete Remastered Series—

Talk later, Sandy

Experience Alzheimers for your Self

EXPERIENCE ALZHEIMER’S FOR YOURSELF

As someone in early stage Alzheimers, I’m always trying to explain how I feel. Other family members can be confused by some of my  behavior which is perfectly normal to me. They want to know so they can be helpful, yet Alzheimer’s is near impossible to explain sometimes.

Sometimes I just can’t find the words. I can’t find the words to describe the noise in my ears, the fear of things that aren’t there, nor the nightmares that visit me every night. Some things that occur, or will occur, are so disheartening that I don’t want loved ones to know.

If you’ve ever wondered about Alzheimer’s, you need only to watch this video for a small glimpse of life for a loved one or friend with Alzheimer’s.
